You can now follow a request from your Ruby application into the other services it calls, and find the step where it slowed down or failed. Atatus Ruby APM adds distributed tracing in Ruby agent 2.1.0.
Update the atatus gem to 2.1.0 or later in your Rails, Sinatra or Grape app. The Ruby agent docs cover installation, configuration and the agent API.
What you can do
- Trace across services: Follow each request from your Ruby service into the services it calls, to find the slow or failing hop.
- Custom spans: Wrap your own methods with
span_method, or useAtatus.start_spanandAtatus.end_span, so that work shows up as its own span. - Logs linked to traces: Log correlation adds trace and transaction IDs to your Rails or plain Ruby logs, so you can go from a log line to its trace.
- Ignore noisy URLs: The same release lets you skip transactions by URL pattern, set from the Atatus dashboard.
